Being an active part of the community is great medicine
Community Care Sunshine Coast
The old saying, “it’s better to give than receive,” is old because it’s true. Anyone that has seen the face of someone that truly needed something and got it, is one that can never be forgotten.
Sometimes in life, those moments tend to take a backseat as there are more pressing issues at the time, maybe you were about to retire, wanted to take a holiday, or were helping out the kids starting their lives.
Whatever the reason is, now, in retirement it is time to embrace that feeling again. You don’t need to give money, though that is helpful, because you can also give time. There are a lot of community organisations that are looking for volunteers to help their organisation help others.
Volunteering Queensland is an organisation that helps organisations find those special people that help make what they do happen. You can give as much or as little of your time as you want and a variety of different ways. There are some organisations looking for only a few hours per month while others are looking for one or two days a week.
There are all different job types as well from administrative, hands on, to media and IT. At all steps, these organisations would love the extra hands. You’ll get a lot out of it too as these organisations are great social tools for you as well as educational pathways to teach you new skills.
Get into the giving spirit and have a look at all the volunteering positions available. You might just find the ultimate reward among them. But at the very least you will learn the power and the fulfillment of giving back the community.
What could be a better gift in retirement than that? Contact us today if you would like some other potential volunteering options.
